Our history
A palace located in the heart of Stockholm, with a deep and rich history dating back to 1799
About us
The conference centre is run by Westmans event & konferens AB, which is a privately owned company and has operated the facility since January 2016.
The conference centre and the restaurant (Restaurang Westman AB) are both under the same management team.
1799
Construction of the palace begins
The Westman Palace was built in 1799-1800 by the master brewer Abraham Lorenzon Westman the Younger (1753-1802) as a residence for his family. The architect was Carl Christoffer Gjörwell the Younger. After the coup d'état in 1809, Lieutenant Colonel Georg Adlersparre ruled Sweden from here. The house was also a central place for Stockholm's social life.
1831
The Natural History Museum starts here
The Westman House was bought by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1828 and was used from 1831 as an exhibition centre for the so-called Natural History Collection. The collection would form the basis of today's Natural History Museum and consisted of a huge collection of stuffed animals from all corners of the world.
1916
The Institute of Dentistry moves in
At the beginning of the 20th century (1916), the building was bought by the state and the entire neighbourhood was rebuilt. Westmanska huset came to house offices and teaching facilities for the Dental Institute, among others.
In 1923, the Royal Medical Board and the Prison and Probation Service also moved into the building.
